Is culture Europe's overlooked line of defense?
Mere om
As Europe arms itself for the future, are we missing one of our most powerful tools of preparedness: culture? Geopolitical tensions are growing. Values, truth, and identites are under siege. In Ukraine, culture has become a front line: bombed theatres, destroyed libraries, and silenced voices are stark reminders that war is also waged on memory, belonging, and meaning. But if culture can be targeted, shouldn’t it also be part of how we prepare ourselves for conflict? This timely discussion invites policymakers, cultural actors, and citizens to rethink culture as more than a soft value. It asks: • Can culture be a strategic resource in national and European preparedness? • How can cultural institutions contribute to societal resilience and democratic cohesion in times of crisis? • And how might Denmark’s upcoming EU Presidency use cultural diplomacy to reinforce European unity?
